The family-farmed Phoenix vineyard is in the cool, southeast corner of the Napa Valley. The area's climate is reminiscent of the Northern Rhône where Syrah is native. Warm days ripen the fruit and provide rich, meaty aromas while cool nights, thanks to breezes from the San Pablo Bay, offer the spiciness we enjoy.

The third in our series of select offerings is a Chardonnay that is a blend of 2 different vineyards from the Green Valley area of the Russian River Appellation. Green Valley is on the western side of Sonoma County where the cool ocean air allows the grapes to maintain a long hang time and natural acidity.

The Cabernet grapes were sourced from the Napa Valley sub-appellations of Oakville and Stags Leap. Oakville's rocky soils contribute rich, velvety tannins; Stags Leap's fruit is distinctive because of the volcanic soils they are grown in that offer elegance and structure.
A small amount of Merlot is blended into this wine to soften its edges. These grapes come from Hyde Vineyards in Carneros and the renowned Blackbird Vineyards in Oak Knoll. Each area produces exceptional Merlot as they receive cooling winds from the bay which extend the growing season, leading to a better balance between sugar and acidity.

The first of these wines is the Hyde Chardonnay from the Carneros appellation in Napa Valley. These small- cluster, intense Wente clone grapes are the product of cool winds and loamy, ancient riverbed soils. The fruit was of such quality that we didn't feel it needed malolactic fermentation, fining or filtration to alter the natural flavors of fruit and acidity. We aged the wine in oak barrels to add a soft, roundness to the wine but aromas of honeysuckle, pear and melon still come through along with elegant mineral tones.
