WHAT:
The Joel Gott 2009 Riesling is rich with honeysuckle, jasmine, lychee, orange blossom, lime, mango and white peach notes. The wine presents upfront richness with a lingering clean finish.

WHERE:
The 2009 Riesling is from vineyards in the Ancients Lakes area of Columbia Valley, Washington. We choose to make a Riesling from Washington as the cold climate preserves Riesling’s varietal fruit characteristics and strong acid backbone. We arrested the fermentation to keep a very small amount of sweetness to balance the strong natural acid, and the wine was made in a crisp and clean style by using all stainless steel fermentaion, no malolactic fermentation, and no oak aging.

WHY:
We traveled to Washington to get our grapes because Riesling thrives in cool Northern latitudes and river valleys. Our Riesling grapes were crushed and chilled in Washington; upon arrival in St. Helena, the juice was inoculated in stainless steel tanks and fermented. The finished wine was then cold-stabilized, filtered, and bottled.
