Vineyard Notes
Our 815 Cabernet Sauvignon reflects what each appellation gives to the wine. Fruit from Napa Valley lends complexity and Sonoma adds a touch of spice to the blend. Lake County vineyards add structured tannins and minerality while Mendocino fruit gives the wine its dark color and rich, fruit flavors. Rounding out the blend, our Lodi fruit is characterized by rich flavor and soft texture and fruit from the Central Coast adds spice and acidity. We source from these varied regions throughout California to create an elegant, balanced wine.
Harvest Notes
Across California, the growing season experienced a dry winter with mild spring and summer temperatures followed by a late summer heatwave, resulting in an earlier than usual harvest. These conditions produced smaller, more concentrated fruit clusters resulting in great flavor and acidity making for a complex and well-balanced wine.
Winemaking Notes
Following harvest, the grapes from each vineyard were sorted and destemmed, then fermented into individual lots. As the lots are aged in oak for 16 months, the barrels are tasted frequently to assess tannin and flavor development. Finally, the lots were blended to balance the characteristics of each grape growing region.
Ratings
93 Points – Decanter
“This ‘815’ California Cabernet Sauvignon (100%) was aged in 35% new American oak for up to 16 months. A snapshot of California from vintners Joel and Sarah Gott, the grapes are sourced from select sites in the Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Lake County, Mendocino, Lodi, and Central Coast appellations. Sampled in a mini-vertical in October 2024, the 2022 vintage was tasted after the 2018, 2019, and 2021 vintages, showcasing absolute consistency in style and ageability in these value-priced Cabernets from the Gotts. While these wines are not intended for long-term ageing, if you happen to forget a few bottles and they re-emerge after 4-5 years, you’ll be in luck—they will still be in fine shape. The 2022 vintage is very ripe, with youthful blackberry, blueberry, and plum fruits complemented by sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, with plump tannins framing juicy, succulent red berry fruits and a hint of cola that emerges on the chalky mineral finish. Pairing this red with burgers is a must, but it also has the acidic verve to hold up to spicy dishes. It delivers a dry, balanced finish with just 1.5 g/L of residual sugar and a pH of 3.69.”- Jonathan Cristaldi
90 Points, Best Buy – Wine Enthusiast
This special bottling is Joel Gott’s tribute to his first-born daughter. The wine is fresh, with wild red berries, plum, cassis, bright citrus, toasty vanilla, sandalwood, and notes of soy. On the palate, black strawberry, dark plum, rhubarb, cinnamon, and spearmint lead to a dry finish. Best Buy.”—Tonya Pitts
